Championship Shooting

Championship Shooting is a shoot ’em up developed by Heinz Lüem, Christian Haller, Orlando Petermann, and Roman Werner, and released in 1991 by Golem Ware.

Game description
The objective of the game is to control a crosshair and shoot at moving targets or obstacles across five levels. The title screen features detailed artwork of a gun, which makes sense, since during gameplay the player only sees the crosshair on the screen. Next, the player chooses a national flag and enters a name. Not all countries are available, but options include Switzerland, Japan, and the flag of the former Soviet Union. Interestingly, the Swiss flag is placed right in the center—whether this is a coincidence remains unclear.

The levels depict scenes reminiscent of a shooting range. Notable visual elements include brick walls and hay bales in the background. Two of the levels take place in outdoor environments; in one of them, the player shoots clay pigeons. At the end of the game, players can enter their name into the Hall of Fame.

Golem Light Gun
The game was originally designed for the Golem Light Gun, a light-gun peripheral for the Amiga computer that allowed players to aim directly at and shoot targets on the screen. In addition to Championship Shooting, the titles Worldwide Hunting and Sport were also developed specifically for use with the Golem Light Gun. Later modifications made it possible to play the game using a mouse instead.

Sales of the game remained limited, largely due to the relatively high cost of the light gun hardware. The device is no longer sold by retailers. Since the Golem Light Gun only functions with CRT monitors, its commercial distribution was no longer practical.
